After an unprecedented year in which the USGA had to cancel 10 of its 14 championships due to health concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Association is planning to conduct its full slate of competitions for 2021. A major hallmark of all USGA championships is the opportunity for players to qualify, something that was not possible for the four championships the USGA conducted in 2020 because of the pandemic. Those four events – the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Amateur and U.S. Women’s Amateur – had fields composed entirely of exempt players.
All of the 59 Allied Golf Associations that conduct qualifiers on behalf of the USGA have worked diligently to schedule sites and dates in their regions while adhering to the health and safety protocols established by state and local officials.
