How Often Do Superintendents Adjust Their Irrigation Systems?

By USGA

| May 20, 2014

Monitoring and adjusting the irrigation system is a task that superintendents do daily while the system is in operation. Several factors are considered when adjusting the irrigation system including current weather conditions, anticipated weather conditions for the next several days, how much water the turf has used (evapotranspiriation), the overall status of the turf, as well as sun and shade patterns in various sections of the course. When you consider that a modern irrigation system for an 18-hole golf course includes 1,000 to more than 2,000 individual sprinklers, one can appreciate how big of a job it is to adjust and program the irrigation system.
