When four of professional golf’s brightest stars – Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff – gather on Sunday at Seminole Golf Club, in Juno Beach, Fla., to play a charity match to raise money for the COVID-19 pandemic, it will offer fans the opportunity to see this Donald Ross gem on live television for the first time.

It will also act as a preview of the 2021 Walker Cup Match, featuring 10-man amateur teams from the USA and Great Britain and Ireland, that is set to be contested at Seminole Golf Club May 8-9.

Many of the best players in the game’s history were on Walker Cup teams, including three of the four participants in Sunday’s match: Johnson (USA), Fowler (USA) and McIlroy (Great Britain and Ireland) competed in the 2007 Walker Cup, won by the USA at Royal County Down in Northern Ireland. Fowler, who won the 2015 Players Championship, would also play in the Match two years later at Merion Golf Club, in Ardmore, Pa., another USA victory.

All three point to the Walker Cup being the pinnacle of their amateur careers. The two-day competition and all the activities leading into the event, including the emotional flag-raising ceremony, are special moments firmly etched into their memory banks.

The next chapter in the Walker Cup’s illustrious history is now set to be written at Seminole.
