U.S. Junior Amateur, U.S. Girls' Junior Player FAQs

Why wasn’t the championship postponed like the U.S. Open/Women’s Open?

It is of the uppermost importance to the USGA to protect the players, volunteers, staff and all who play a role in bringing this championship to life. Given the ongoing concerns about health and safety as well as current and proposed federal, state and local guidelines regarding gatherings, it would make effectively conducting qualifying for the championship next to impossible for the Allied Golf Associations. The USGA feels strongly that cancelling the 2020 U.S. Junior Amateur championship is in the best interest of all those who are involved. We look forward to continuing to build the legacy of the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2021.

Will Hazeltine be considered to host a future U.S. Junior Amateur championship?

Will exemptions into the U.S. Amateur (if conducted) roll over from 2019?

We will evaluate criteria for 2021 and make those determinations at a future date.

Will 19-year-olds be allowed to compete in the 2021 championship similar to what the NCAA has permitted to senior athletes with spring sports?

There are ongoing discussions around 2021 championship qualifications, and we are not prepared to announce any decisions at this time.

Will 2019 champion get to compete in both 2020 and 2021 U.S. Open?
